It is more important to publish in a reputable journal than to pick an unreliable one. Your career and the reputation of your field of study could be harmed by publishing in periodicals with a bad reputation. About 80,000 academic, peer-reviewed English language publications are currently active as of July 2019, and 30,000 of those journals are categorized as being in the field of medical and health.1 When publishing the results of their studies, authors are advised to abide by a variety of guidelines set by the National Institutes of Health. The authors should do their homework on the validity, history, expectations, and reputation of the journals before submitting their work. The National Institutes of Health provided a number of recommendations for authors to follow when publishing their study findings.2 Follow the guidelines for research integrity and publication ethics, look for journals that adhere to the best procedures recommended by academic publishing professionals, and steer clear of journals with a weak peer review system. The criteria for evaluating a journal quality include editorial quality, peer review process, ethics, editorial board members, journal reputation/business model, author rights and copyright, indexing status of the journal, etc.3 Always search for peer-reviewed or refereed scientific journals of the highest caliber. Before being accepted for publication, manuscripts submitted to this kind of journals must be reviewed by an editor, an editorial board, or a group of subject-experts. An excellent journal will be listed in one or more significant journal databases like PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Journals with fewer submissions are seen as having greater prestige. The researchers would undoubtedly benefit from using SciRev, Journal name estimator, Journal guide, Journal reviewer, and other intriguing sources to assist them choose an effective journal to submit their work.2, 3
